Jack Knight

Elmer Russell "Jack" Knight.

Buried in Victor Cemetery: DeLeon, Texas.

1922 St. Louis Cardinals; 1925-1926 Philadelphia Phillies; 1927 Boston Braves.

Jack Knight made his Major League debut on September 20, 1922 at Brooklyn, throwing 4IP, 9H/4ER, with 1K:3BB in the second game of a double-header. He had to wait over two years to get back to the Majors and record his first win, which came in relief of the April 29, 1925 Philadelphia win over the New York Giants. A week later he started a three-game run with three Wins, completing both of the games he started, to improve to 4-0, and would finish the 1925 season with a 7-5 record despite a 6.75 ERA.

1926 was not as kind to Knight. Despite starting the season with two complete games, Knight went 2-11 over the rest of the season with a 7.27 ERA and opponents hitting .354 off of him. Knight pitched in three games for the 1927 Boston Braves, his last appearance coming on April 25 in which he allowed 6H/5ER in 2IP. With his playing career at a close, Knight shifted to management, scouting for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and 1948, and Cleveland in 1952-1953. As a minor-league manager Knight won a league championship three times.
