1937 AL All-Star.
Started his MLB career 0x8 but broke out in his third game with a 4x5, 1HR/4RBI day against the White Sox on April 21, 1935. Hit a career-high two home runs with 5RBI on May 26, 1937 at Fenway Park off of Wes Ferrell. Enjoyed 38 multi-hit games in his career. Had a 21-game hitting streak from August 2-21, 1936.
Led League with 218 hits in 1937, more than future Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Charlie Gehringer, and Hank Greenberg. Led League with 51 Doubles in 1937. Led American League in Assists in 1936 and 1937. Racked up 240 RBIs in 1936-1937.
Won College World Series as the head coach of Texas A&M University in 1951.
